Environmental Policy Statement
On the whole, Optimum is a service company with a relatively low environmental impact compared with a manufacturing or utility company.
Our most important environmental responsibility is to minimize emissions from transports. We also purchase products thereby creating an environmental impact from a lifecycle perspective. One large category of products we purchase is security uniforms.
The operations of the Group do not require a NEMA permit under the Kenyan Environmental Code.
Decreasing Emissions is Our Focus
In 2008, an analysis of the major environmental and carbon foot-print aspects of our business was undertaken by Group Management. The analysis led to the conclusion that exhaust emissions from company cars was to be a prioritized area for improvement.
We have since adopted and implemented an Environmental Policy, which is annually updated, stipulating that no new company cars, Trucks, buses and specialist vehicles are not defined as company cars or minivans. Our environmental target is to decrease our exhaust emissions on a yearly basis.
Although we have implemented local initiatives to improve our environmental performance – such as recycling of paper and materials, using on-line manuals, procedures and training instead of printing, and printing magazines on certified papers – these efforts are miniscule in relation to the benefits of focusing on transport issues. Accordingly, we are focusing on this to the best of our ability.
